A note from the house
The first cold night of the year, and every one after. Peat smoke from a Terai sedge root and the honeyed shavings of a thousand-year-old Huon pine: a fire without a fireplace.
Made most often for winter, for mountain houses, and for Delhi in January.

The story
Nagarmotha is a sedge root from the Terai floodplain that smells of peat smoke and dry wood; it is the secret behind half the great smoky perfumes.
Huon pine grows a millimetre a year and some living trees are older than Rome. Its shavings smell of honey and resin, collected only from fallen timber.
Light it on the first cold night of the year, and every one after.
